If you have a iPad and are you in a dilemma to buy an Apple Pencil thinking if it is worth spending the money, this article is for you.
The conclusion is that if you are a student or someone who takes notes or if you are artist who like to draw on iPad buy apple pencil. If you have that extra money of $200 to spend and want to experience the usability of the Pencil go for it.
That been said, one thing I like to say is that I have been using my iPad with Apple Pencil for the past 2 years and found it really helpful and a must to have accessory with Ipad.
There are primarily two main reasons why you should get an Apple Pencil for your iPad. One is for the pleasure of handwriting which is most useful for student who love making handwritten notes and wanted to shift to paperless digital note taking. In numerous free apps like Notes, Microsoft OneNote and paid apps like Notability, Goodnotes are used for this very purpose. I personally use notability for making notes which is super easy to use.
Second reason is for drawing. There are apps like Procreate, Linea Sketch which most of the digital drawers use. The features of these apps can only be used by having an Apple pencil.
So which Apple Pencil you should buy?
There are two apple pencils available at present in the market. One Apple Pencil 1st generation and two Apple Pencil 2nd generation. The one which I am using is 2nd generation Apple Pencil is priced around 219 Dollars in Australia which is 129 Dollars in the US. The previous one, which is the 1st Generation Apple Pencil retails at 145 dollars in Australia which is 99 dollars in the USA.
Even though the first generation lacks many features like wireless charging, magnetic attachment, double tap to change tool which the second generation do support, the first-generation apple pencil is the only Apple stylus which is supported for lower end devices other than iPad Pros and iPad Air 2020. So, it is the only option for many iPads Mini and iPad Air.
What are the other benefits of owning an Apple Pencil?
One of the key benefits is that it can be used as a pointer just like mouse in the case of computers. Suppose if you are scrolling through a heavy content rich webpage like this with a lot of links, it could be not so easy to tap on the links using your fingers precisely. In such cases if you have a apple pencil, you could easy use it to click accurately on the links.
Another one key use is when you are editing your videos or photos using your iPad which most of us may do not do very often but at-least a few times. So, in such cases if you have a Apple Pencil, you can scroll through the frames, adjust the sliders more accurately than using your fingers.
Scribble is the new feature which is added in iPadOS 14 by which one can convert the handwritten text to typed text. I personally don’t think many people would use that feature as it takes a bit extra time than typing normally on screen or by using a keyboard. But its still a cool feature to show-off with your friends.
So, as said earlier if you are a student or an artist who has that additional money to spend go buy the Apple Pencil.
